John Jay Drops Home Opener to Kean University, 66-53

On Tuesday the John Jay College Bloodhounds played Kean University in their home opener. This year the Bloodhounds have a new Head Coach and a bunch of new faces like Shamil Duran, Darryl Dennis, Wilson Tenorio, Tyler Clarke, Eddie Sanford, Isaiah Holman, and Lionel Lorquet. Coach DeVernie Winston, who coached last year at BMCC and was an assistant of the first ever John Jay College Men's Basketball Championship team in 2008, has a few returning players including Daniel Desir, Dave Williams, Chris Jaegar, Joe Padell, Ryan Olsen, and Vaughn Mason. Four of the six returners played on the Championship team in 2008.
With both Mason and Olsen out with injury, Dave Williams and Chris Jaegar each had 11 points in the 66-53 loss to Kean. The Bloodhounds would have a lead in the 1st half for a short while but the second half was controlled by Kean. Kean was lead by Jonathan Jones and Akinwande Oshodi, who had 15 points a piece. John Jay's mixture of returners and new young player's show some promise and they will look to be a presence in the CUNY conference this year with the return of Mason and Olsen.
